Cheryls artwork is a diverse and eclectic collection of pieces, from distinct commissioned portraits of people and animals, to photography of various rodeo and horseback shooting events as well as lettering, sign painting and logo design.
Cheryl is a self-taught artist who studied the fine Art of Sign Painting, Lettering, Pin-Striping, Calligraphy, Logo Design and Mural Artwork under Master Sign Painter Leo Sosa while living in Houston Texas. Through the years, Cheryl has developed Bic Pen drawing and sketching techniques, which she now shares with other interested artist in classes based on this technique.
She had her first art piece published at the early age of eleven in the Quarter Horse Journal magazine, c. 1968, and continues to perfect a style and artistry unique to the art industry. Cheryl has illustrated and written articles for major magazines such as The Horseman Magazine, c. 1983, Horse illustrated Magazine, C. 1993, and Dog Fancy Magazine, c. 1994.
She currently contributes commissioned artwork, freelance illustrations, and photography to professional exhibits mostly in Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. Cheryl has exhibited her artwork in the Galveston Texas metro area of Keymah Texas at "Stebbins Art Gallery" as well as The "Baker Arts Foundation" located in Liberal Kansas, The "Stevens County Library" in Hugoton Kansas, the "Sandhills Art Association" (Honorable Mention Award) in Garden City Kansas, "The Carnegie Art Center" in Goodland Kansas, The "Main Artery " gallery in Ulysses Kansas, and "The Arts Center on Main" in Garden City and most recently in Guymon Oklahoma at the "Wild Horse Gallery".
Cheryl is a member of the Arabian Horse Association (AHA), the Friesian Horse Association of Northern America (FHANA) and the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) and it is there where a lot of her inspiration is acquired and brought to life in her sketches, oil paintings and photography work. Horse shows, Rodeo events, Horseback shooting competitions, Zoos, and nature trips influence the rest of her creativity.
